Ulu Pandan Fundraising Dinner and Launch of Choo Siu Heng Scholarship / 设立朱秀兴奖学金
Joined Christopher de Souza (www.facebook.com/chrisdesouza.ulupandan) and Ulu Pandan residents at a fundraising dinner this evening, where we launched the Choo Siu Heng Scholarship. This will fund the university education of one young Singaporean living in Ulu Pandan each year.
Mr Choo Siu Heng was a dedicated grassroots activist in Ulu Pandan. He started volunteering in the 1960s and 1970s, when life in Singapore was much tougher than today. He and many others of his generation stepped forward, worked together and helped to build today’s Singapore. I hope today’s Singaporeans will emulate Mr Choo, serve their community, and create a better home for future generations.
Also wish to thank the donors and volunteers who raised $800,000 for community activities in Ulu Pandan. The funds will go towards book prizes for students with special needs, Qigong and Dance Fit clubs to keep senior citizens active, and of course the Choo Siu Heng Scholarship. - LHL
刚出席了乌鲁班丹区的筹款晚宴。在热心人士支持下，我们筹得80万元，可用来开展各项社区活动，造福居民，这包括设立一项奖学金，以资助区内的优秀学子，并且借以纪念一位已故的基层领袖朱秀兴先生。朱先生在乌鲁班丹区服务了50年，非常热诚地为居民服务，是备受尊敬的“大好人”，同时也是多位议员的良师益友。我希望年轻一代能够向朱先生看齐，挺身而出，为社会大众服务，为国家的不断进步贡献自己的一份力量。- 李显龙
